He attended a small country school, Lewis Lake, not too far from the family farm. Eventually that school closed and he was bussed to Naicam School.
Once his education was finished, Randy ventured out west to B.C. to seek employment, then to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked at INCO Limited, a nickel mine.
In returning back to the Lac Vert area, he married Frances Holder in December of 1972. They resided in Melfort, Saskatchewan with their two sons, Quentin and Dallas.
Randy was employed with the Department of Highways in 1973, where he worked for over thirty years until his retirement.
In 1993, Randy met his life-long partner, Norma. They purchased a home in Melfort and eventually built a cabin at Wapiti. After they retired, Randy and Norma enjoyed travelling to Yuma until Norma’s sudden passing in March of 2014.
Randy enjoyed visiting with family and friends and going out to coffee row. He took an interest in auction sales and collectable items became a pass time. He enjoyed spending his time at the cabin at Wapiti, riding his quad, going fishing and sitting by the campfire. He enjoyed hunting for deer and moose each fall season. Randy was overwhelmed with pride to watch his Grandson, Damian, get his first moose.
In November of 2016, Randy was admitted to Pineview Lodge at Nipawin and later to Parkland Place in Melfort until his passing on April 2nd, 2019 after a battle with his health.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Dallas (Lana); grandchildren Tesa, Samira, Damian and Rickelle; extended family Blake Galliard, Tenyll Cook and her children Jon, Sarah and Angela; sister Audrey (Murray) Seip and family; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Randy was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Elsie Long, son Quentin Long, niece Shannon (Seip) Larocque and his partner Norma Galliard.
