Obituary for Glenn Robert McFarlane

Glenn Robert McFarlane
Glenn was born on June 27, 1926 in Star City, SK to James and Carrie McFarlane. He was the youngest of four children and was raised on the homestead where later, he and Irene lived until he took ill.
Dad attended Athol School where he took Grades 1-8. He then went to L.C.B.I. in Outlook to take his high school education.
During his younger years he was a star pitcher, played some hockey, where he may have broken his nose. While playing ball at various sports days, either for Ratner or Gronlid, he noticed a young woman named Irene who not only caught the ball, but also his eye. Glenn and Irene were married on Oct. 30, 1951.
Dad had a very deep, quiet faith in God. He and Irene became involved in the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. The family were all baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith.
He was involved in the local 4-H club as a leader and taught many young men how to weld. He had a shop business on the farm. It appeared he could fix anything. He loved to use his hands, therefore had many hobbies. He was also very musical. He played the guitar, the violin, the mandolin and the bass guitar and in his later years enjoyed playing to the seniors with Ray Kalk. He not only liked to play music but loved to dance to it, with him and Mom taking in many old time dance and polka fests.
Dad and Mom also did some travelling. They began RVing with John and Gwen Norelius who introduced them to the Good Sam’s RV Club. Here they made even more lasting friendships. Then there was hunting and fishing with many tall tales to follow. He was well known for his dry humour and firm handshake which almost became a competition between him and nephew Dennis for who had the best grip.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Carrie, brother Leonard, sister Ruth Hagen, brother in law Arnold Hagen, sister in law Bernice McFarlane, father and mother in law Holmfred and Alice Johnson, brother in law Budd Johnson and nephews Wade Johnson and Sheldon Shawaducki.
He is survived by his wife Irene; daughters Judy (Richard) Olson, Shauna (Kurtis) Stafford – Krysten, Brooklyn, Adyson, Karen (Randy) Person, Quinn (Lyle) Eyben – Claire and Olivia, Niki Kinar (Norm Lepage) Blaine and Alexi, Rowan (Shane) Schurman, Shirley (Gary) Lamb, Graham Lamb – Hannah, Hunter and Ashton, Daniel (Marrianna) Lamb, Lillianna, Mathew Lamb (Erin Thompson), Dalane Lamb (Nicole Spokowski); sons Linden (Alice), Joel McFarlane (Janel Reddick), Rhea McFarlane, Larry (Charlene) Chase McFarlane, Brenna McFarlane, and Murray, J’Zee McFarlane (Jeremy Miller).
He also leaves to mourn, his brother Eugene (Joyce) McFarlane, sister in law Charlotte McFarlane and sister in law Doris (Adam) Shawaducki, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed!
