Life Story for Ingvar Arvid Berggren

Ingvar Arvid Berggren
Ingvar was born to Gillis Hjalmar and Alfhild Ingeberg (Oberg) Berggren on April 22, 1940. Raised and educated in the Sturgeon River School District to grade eight, Ingvar graduated from Shellbrook Highschool in 1958.
In 1959, Ingvar started university at the University of Saskatoon in the College of Engineering and changed to the Saskatoon Teacher’s College in 1961, emerging with a Teacher’s Certificate in 1962.
Ingvar meet Cecilia Gursky in 1960 and in 1963 convinced her to marry him. They moved to the great northern region of Saskatchewan, where Ingvar taught school in La Loche, Cole Bay and Canoe Lake until 1968. During this time they also increased their family by 3 with the birth of Frances Alphild December 14, 1963, Gillis John October 30, 1964 and Eric Ingvar November 27, 1965.
In 1968 the family relocated to Melfort, Saskatchewan. Ingvar obtained his Bachelor of Education degree in 1987 and spent a total of 27 years with the Melfort School Division before retiring in 1995.
However, retiring from one job only opened up the door of Ingvar’s next career of volunteer work, which he did for the next 22 years. Ingvar divided his time and his talents between the Melfort & District Museum and the Melfort Agricultural Society until the time of his passing.
Ingvar leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Cecilia, his children Frances and Gillis (Karin), his grandchildren Kristen (Shari), Shayne, Coleten, Jesse, Olivia, and Matthew and his great grandchildren Kinnley James, Lily Ann and Tren Eric. Ingvar was predeceased by his beloved son, Eric March 21, 2007.
