Marian Smith (Gogol)
Marian Smith (nee Gogol) was born on September 21, 1923 in a rural setting near Canora, SK. She was the ninth child in a family of ten children born to Frank and Anna Gogol. For her elementary school years she attended a multigrade school in rural Canora and attended a similar school in rural Hudson Bay when the family relocated there. For high school she regularly walked from the farm to town.
In 1943 she began her teaching career at Beaton School north of Prince Albert where she stayed for two years. In 1945 she married Llewellyn Smith who farmed west of Hudson Bay. She taught at the White Poplar School following her marriage with a break to raise two sons, Garry and Wayne. In 1960 when rural students were bused into town, she joined the staff at Blake Beattie School where she taught only one grade. She taught here until her retirement in 1983 after 33 years of teaching.
She was predeceased by her husband, six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her two sons and numerous nieces and nephews.
