Obituary for Violet Maxine "Vi" Van Allen (Jensen)
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Violet Van Allen on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
Violet was the last of five children born to Petra and Jacob Jensen on the Naicam homestead on June 22, 1932. After a battle with cancer at a young age, Violet attended school at Lewis Lake and continued on with a business course in Saskatoon. She was employed by Liquid Air in Regina, Aikenhead Agencies, Dokken, Carson & Fafard, Ramstead, Harder & Kopera, and finally Meyers Norris Penny all in Melfort. She was given an unforgettable 65th birthday/retirement party by MNP with a two month trip to her beloved Norway which she enjoyed immensely.
Violet loved to travel and made several trips to Norway as well as Russia, England, Scotland, Wales and Amsterdam. She also enjoyed a Canadian train excursion.
Violet always loved to give her time and energy to a good cause, whether campaigning for Donor's Choice, United Way or the Lupus Society. Every fall she could be seen at the Melfort Mall selling crafts and baked goodies to raise funds for Lupus awareness and she also became involved in Melfort Culture Days. Her dear friend Janet would joke saying " you just want your picture in the paper" but she was just in her element.
Violet truly enjoyed her church and was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church. She attended as often as possible and always spoke fondly of her treasured church friends.
Last summer she was able to attend a Jensen family reunion in Lethbridge where she had a good time visiting with her nieces and nephews and her brother Ivar. She brought back some good memories from those few days.
A week before Violet's passing she mentioned how much she missed her friends gone before her. It's nice to know they are all together upstairs playing a rousing game of Scrabble!
Violet was predeceased by her parents Petra and Jacob, brother Thormo (Betty), brother Eldor (Lavawn), sister Sylvia and son Ken, sister-in-law Anny, grandson Ashley and many wonderful friends.
She is survived by her daughter Wendy; grandsons: Ethan and Catlin (Santana) and their daughter Vesper; granddaughter Maddie (Bryan) and their son Hayden; brother Ivar (Gwen), several cousins in Norway, numerous nieces and nephews and their families and so many truly treasured friends.
