Obituary for Paul Kantymir
It is with much sadness that we, the family announce the passing of our brother and uncle, Paul Kantymir. Uncle Paul fell asleep in the Lord on January 9, 2018 at the age 88 years. Uncle Paul was born February 2, 1929 on the family farm in the Whittome District. He went to Belgrave school until grade 8. He then had to leave school to help on the family farm. Uncle Paul then went back to school in Moose Jaw to carpenter school and received his Journeyman Carpenter certificate. He travelled to many job sites, wherever work was available. Uncle Paul spent 35 years as a carpenter. After retiring from carpentry, he received a plaque for 35 years service, for which he was very proud of.
He lived on the farm looking after his brothers Fred and John. After they passed away he stayed on the farm for several years, then moved into Melfort. From Melfort, Uncle Paul was moved to the Kelvingdell Lodge in Kelvington, SK due to ill health.
Uncle Paul enjoyed all outdoor sports, playing ball, curling and some travelling.
Uncle Paul was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Brooksby (Belgrave) for many years and after moving to Melfort he was a member of All Saints’ Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Melfort.
Uncle Paul is survived by his sister Mary Schur; nephew Daniel Schur of Durban, MB and nieces: Lena (Wesley) Matiece of Swan Plain, SK., Patricia Schur, Malvina (Keith) Cowan; great niece Lisa Meadows and great, great nephew Noah Matiece of Swan River, MB
Uncle Paul was predeceased by his parents: Daniel and Froyena; niece Lena; brothers: Fred and John. He was also predeceased by four brothers and two sisters between the ages of 1 and 9 years old, before he was born.
