It is with sad hearts that we share the death of Arthur Leo Westlund of Melfort, Saskatchewan, on September 18th, 2017 at the age of 73. Art was born May 14th, 1944 to Raymond and Flora Westlund of Brownlee, Saskatchewan. Art grew up on the family farm at Brownlee with his sister and three brothers. He enjoyed the life of a young prairie boy catching gophers, playing hockey and ball, and fishing at Long Lake. Plants and farming were always an interest, and after completing school in Brownlee, Art attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a Bachelor of Science, Agriculture in 1966. He then took over the family farm, instructing at the U of S College of Agriculture in the winter and farming in the summer. In 1970 he married Frances McAusland of Melfort and they lived on the Brownlee family farm where they raised their two daughters, Laura and Adrienne. In 1985 they moved to Melfort to join C.C. McAusland, farming together as Thatch Creek Farms Ltd. Art lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed fishing Saskatchewan’s Northern Lakes, watching Blue Jays baseball, listening to Jazz, Blues and Old Country music and travelling the world with Frances. Art is predeceased by his parents Raymond and Flora (Quick) Westlund, and brothers Donald and Peter. He is survived by his wife Frances, and his two daughters Adrienne and Laura (Peter) Patko, and older sister Verle (Curtis) Lambert, his older brother Dennis (Carol Ann), sisters-in-law Carol Westlund and Dorie Westlund and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, hunting buddies, fishing partners and friends.
